Prime Minister Ersin Tatar has reacted harshly to the news that the US has decided to partially remove its arms embargo against the Greek Cypriot administration.
He invited the US to reverse its wrong decision and added that the decision will only serve to increase the intransigent stance of the Greek Cypriot side.
“The US’s decision to remove its arms embargo against South Cyprus between October 1, 2020 and September 30, 2021 is wrong. At a time when Greek-Greek Cypriot provocations are on the rise, this decision by the US that is also a permanent member of the UN Security Council is not fitting” said Tatar.
He said this decision does not serve peace but only contributes to the Greek Cypriot side’s intransigent stance.
“I condemn the US and call on it to rectify this situation” said Tatar and added that everyone should know that Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus will not give up on their rights.
“What needs to be done is not to fuel tensions but to see the realities on the island and continue on our road to peace” said Tatar.
